ARTA BRIDGE
Byzantine bridge with a legend located in Arta.
This building is a 17th-century Ottoman bridge. There are many bridges like this one in Epirus and the Balkans. And many tell the same story. Or rather, the same legend. The bridge would inevitably collapse during the night following the day of its completion, until the master builder agreed, at the behest of a genie, to encase his wife alive in one of the bridge's arches, and thus use his wife as a "foundation stone" to prevent the ill-conceived edifice from collapsing...
