This marshy area, now protected as a nature park, is one of the largest in Europe. More than 300 species of animals, birds, otters and beavers live near the water. The aquatic life is very rich, especially the leather carp, the Danube salmon, the European mudminnow. It is also a great region for animal husbandry. Herds of cows, horses and pigs graze freely on the roadsides. To visit the natural park, take the road along the Sava river. The churches and traditional peasant houses, built entirely of wood from floor to ceiling, are very picturesque in the landscape.
