Founded in the fourth century, it is the capital of Lycia in the time of Pericles, founder of the Lycian Federation. It is still one of the most beautiful cities. In the fourth century, Gaius Cesar, grandson and heir of Augustus, died. During the Byzantine era, it is the seat of a bishop, but Arab invasions force its inhabitants to abandon it around the eleventh century. Several interesting tombs, on the summit of the Tocak Dağı, and a mausoleum, perhaps that of Pericles. At the foot of the hill, a theater dating from 120 BC.
