The Aksaray square occupies the location of one of the most important squares in Byzantium, the forum Bovis, which had its name to the presence of a huge bronze head coming from Pergamos which served as a furnace. Julien L burned Christians there. Emperor Phocas died in 610 and two ministers from Justinian II who fought against him in 695.
