Overlooking the Golden Horn, it is the favourite place of fishermen and offers a magnificent viewpoint for tourists.

Beyazıt II (1481-1512) tried to attract Leonardo da Vinci to build a bridge over the Golden Horn. This offer was reiterated by Selim I (1512-1520) to Michelangelo, who would have accepted it if Pope Julius II had not threatened him with excommunication. Located on the Golden Horn, the Galata Bridge connects the old historic city with the Galata and Beyoğlu districts. The first bridge, made of wood, was built in 1845, and replaced in 1863 and then in 1875. A fourth bridge, 468 m long, was built on the site by a German company between 1910 and 1912, consisting of multiple sections resting on 22 floating barges. The deck of the central part rises every evening between 2am and 4am, to ensure the passage of large boats entering or leaving the port of the Golden Horn. This historic bridge was seriously damaged by a fire in 1992, and replaced by a modern construction better able to handle the city's traffic. The old Galata bridge is nevertheless completely restored and transported upstream of the Golden Horn. Today, the walk on the Galata Bridge among fishermen is one of the highlights of a visit to Istanbul. Note that you can also go under the bridge which is full of fish and seafood restaurants. Finally, try to enjoy a small Istanbul by night by taxi from the modern city: the view of the illuminated mosques is simply magical!

The bridge attention the historical peninsula of Istanbul to Eminönü. With the fishermen who are present almost every day at two sides of the bridge, a beautiful atmosphere awaits visitors. There are also small cafés and fish restaurants at the bottom of the bridge.
the Galata bridge is really the vehicle of communication between the two cities, always very lively, full of fishermen, very pleasant walk to the old town, side the Bosphorus, other Corne d'Or.
