It is one of the oldest hotels in the city (1848). With its no less than 150 charming rooms, behind its ancient façade, this 3-star hotel reveals rooms that have been refurbished, sober and elegant (TV, telephone, safe, air conditioning). The buffet breakfast is served in a vast dining room decorated with moldings, a beautiful dome and pretty lamp posts. The establishment, with its charming yellow façade, remains a classic in the city. The staff is particularly attentive and helpful. I hardly if ever give any restaurant a one star. But today I break my trend. Our last day in Barcelona so against all that we had read we thought we just had to eat along The Rambla to see if it is as bad as they say. Yup! Believe the reviewers. Ok to be fair I'm rating this based on two items on the menu - the American breakfast and cappuccino. We both had the same. The mushrooms were cold. The eggs so so and only just warm. There was plenty of salad. Only one strip of bacon. Cappuccino was cold and barely a few mouthfuls as it was a small cup and it was mostly froth. And breakfast appears to start at 9am-ish. Waiters are friendly and speak English. But they also pick their noses and you need hand sanitizer after touching the menu.
Best part of this experience was people-watching on The Rambla and I can say I did it. It was an expensive experience €38.50 as there are taxes of 10‰ and another 15%. Have had much better breakfast for a fraction of that.

Het eten, drankjes en obers tijdens het eten waren prima. Toen mijn moeder wilde betalen vertelde een nieuwe ober (hele avond nog niet gezien) dat hij de fooi die wij gaven niet genoeg vond. Voor referentie de fooi was 8 euro voor een 80 euro bon. Belachelijk dit, we hebben de fooi achtergelaten voor de leuke obers die wel hun werk goed deden.

I was shocked to see a 1.4 for this restaurant, friends and family had dinner in this place and from the minute we sat down, was an amazing experience. I would give them a10 if we could. Waiters were the best I’ve seen in a while. Paella was delicious and the humongous drinks were great.

Wir hatten Paella mit Meeresfrüchte, war geschmacklich in Ordnung. Auch der Preis von 19,50 geht so. Was aber nicht passt, ist für einen großen Sangria 17 Euro und einen kleinen 13 Euro. Das ist zu teuer. Auch die Toilette war recht schmutzig und ohne Klobrille.

Take care! Scams! The prices on the menu has nothing to do with the prices on the note!!! On the note you will find that the beer is not 12 euro but 16.90 because 12 euro is at the breakfast time, not at lunchtime, then you will find that prices are 15% bigger because you are on the terrace… Above all, another 10% as a “base”, don’t know what is this but surely it doesn’t appear on the menu. Before you find all these shaded details, they will ask you if you want to pay services (tip). And so, instead of paying 40 euro, you’ll pay 70 euros! Almost double!
Shame Orient restaurant, shame authorities, to permit scams on Rambla!
