CLAUDIANUS MONSTERS

Little visited, the Mons Claudianus is 1 hour drive from Port Safaga. The Roman site includes a military camp and village of which some remains remain, which can be visited in a stone silence. One can distinguish the ruins of the old fort with the dwellings and the baths as well as the walls and bases of the temple of Serapis. Upstream of Mount Fatireh is the old granite quarry where a magnificent 200-ton column rests that has been left standing for centuries. We go there by taxi, not forgetting its water reserve!
