Superb mosque with interior colonnade, covered prayer room and mihrab with superb green dome.

The only Mamluk building in the Citadel, this superb mosque was erected in 1335 by Sultan el-Nasir Mohammed. Don't let the exterior fool you, the interior is simply magnificent. The splendid merlons give the building a rare strength. An interior colonnade surrounds the central courtyard, the prayer room is covered and a superb green dome surmounts the mihrab. Arabesques, rosettes, interlacing: pay close attention to the finely sculpted ornamentation.
