The village of Mbozi, famous for the meteorite that fell there, is located 70 kilometers west of Mbeya, on the road to Tunduma.
Located 70 kilometers west of Mbeya, on the road to Tunduma, lies the village of Mbozi, famous for the meteorite that fell there and was only discovered in 1942. The locals knew it long before and call it Kimwondo. At 25 tonnes of steel, 3 metres long and 1 metre wide, it's the world's fourth heaviest and eighth widest meteorite. This fragment of interplanetary matter was large enough not to burn up completely on entering the atmosphere, but small enough not to explode on impact.
