NGOZI CRATER

The volcanic lakes of Ngozi, 38 km from Mbeya, are located in the Poroto and Kisiba mountains. They are beautiful and amazing and have a strong meaning in the mythology of the local tribes. The flooded caldera measures 1.5 km by 2.5 km, at an altitude of nearly 2,600 m, at the bottom of a crater overlooked by 200 m of cliffs. The access road to the lake is at Isongole, on the national road between Uyole and Tukuyu. It is best to hire a guide. At Isyonje there is a road to Kitulo National Park.
