The Tembo (Swahili for elephant) is a historic hotel on the waterfront, where the likes of Gandhi and Freddy Mercury have stayed. Strangely, it remains affordable in low season. The lobby is a small museum brimming with antiques, and the rooms are equipped with antique furniture, each one unique (prefer those upstairs). Some have a balcony overlooking one of the two swimming pools or the beach. The restaurant (Indian-style taste and service), with its feet in the sand, could be better. There's also a less expensive modern annex opposite.

The problem we had is that we had booked sea view rooms x2 and they ended up putting us in rooms with no view, instead we had a room basically in the dining buffet area. Which would be fine if we hadn't paid for a better class room.
Additionally one of the rooms the bedsheets and towels had been folded and set as if they had been prepared for new guests, however both were clearly not changed from the previous guests.
The restaurant staff were a bit hard to understand but I think they had a harder time understanding us...
Overall acceptable but probably would have been better if we got what we paid for rather than the secret downgrade...
Je n'ai sûrement pas eu la plus belle chambre … mais c'était déjà exceptionnel, tant pour la décoration que la vue.
A noter présence d'un réfrigérateur et d'une bouilloire dans la chambre.
Le personnel est naturellement gentil (C'est à dire pas intéressé) et serviable.
On peut se baigner sur la plage devant l'hôtel, y admirer les couchers de soleil et le ballet des bateaux en partance pour "Prison Island"
