Less than 2 km north of the fortified town, an ancient tower intrigues specialists. At 15 m high, it has no doors or staircases, but a few windows on the upper level. It may once have been inhabited by early Christian monks, who found here the solitude they needed to meditate. Today, you won't be able to see much of the building, but you can still visit it to feel the special atmosphere. The remains of a church are scattered nearby.

Et oui, le saviez-vous, certains moines se retiraient du monde en s'établissant en haut de tours avec une vue à 360° pour mieux se rapprocher de Dieu ? Cette tour-colonne est probablement la seule tour stylite qui soit encore debout dans le monde, et elle est dans un état exceptionnel, avec un paysage lui aussi suffisamment préservé pour s'imaginer plus d'un millénaire en arrière venant déranger son unique habitant en plein ascèse. On aimerait pouvoir monter tout en haut... mais comme il n'y a jamais eu d'escaliers prévus à cet effet, à vouloir monter à la corde comme nos moines on risquerait d'y rester !

En dehors du site principal donc c'est gratuit. C'est avant le site sur la gauche en venant de Madaba. La Tour est en bon état avec une autre construction plus délabrée à côté.
