This village located halfway between the Kings' Road and the Desert Road has some precious vestiges that earned it a Unesco nomination in 2004. Referred to in the Bible as Mephaat, the ancient Roman garrison was occupied in turn by the Byzantines, then the Umayyads. These three civilizations left an important imprint on this city and its ruins are particularly well preserved. Archaeologists have discovered the remains of a Byzantine church, St. Stephen, with a floor covered with a sumptuous mosaic of the eighth century very well preserved
