KREENHOLM

Located south of Narva, the Kreenholm factory is famous in the region for having been particularly productive from 1857 - its foundation - until very recently when the break-up of the Soviet Union dealt a brutal blow to its activity which nevertheless continues to this day. Founded by Baron Ludwig Knoop, the textile factory was the largest in the Russian Empire in 1913 and employed almost 10,000 people! The place is well worth a visit for the majesty of its red-brick complex.
