Largest city of the Bulgarian North-West, with 40 000 inhabitants, Montana is an industrial city of plain, with a typically communist face. Without having any particular attraction, its city center is full of trees and lively, with a market and some pedestrian streets with a lot of shops. Its history museum is interesting; apart from that, nothing special will keep you as a visitor, except a typical atmosphere and an almost total absence of tourism. The classic tourists prefer Vidin, Belogradtchik or Berkovitsa to stay, but Montana is a strategic city to discover the region, between mountains and plains.
