This island is the main island of the archipelago and is home to Matsu's main airport. This is where the ferries arrive and leave for the other islands. But Nangan is not the most interesting island, it sometimes leaves a rather negative impression on visitors when they stop there on their way to Beigan or elsewhere. However, take the time to explore it, especially in the more remote areas, where the small villages, clinging to the coast and where some soldiers have stayed to live once their service is over, offer the spectacle of a Taiwan frozen in time.
