This fishing port lies in the narrowest part of Thailand's peninsula. This spit of land, literally wedged between Myanmar to the west and the Gulf of Thailand to the east, is barely 15 km wide: it's the isthmus of Kra. The locality is shunned by Western tourists, and all the better for it. This is an opportunity to discover a small town on the Thai coast that has remained authentic, with its small shops and nonchalant pace. The bay offers a remarkable panorama, with its rocky peaks seemingly facing the ocean. While the town's beach is not suitable for swimming, Ao Manao, just outside town, is superb.
