Phetchaburi is located 160 km south of Bangkok and has a population of around 27,000. It is one of Thailand's oldest cities. A royal city dating back to the 8th century and a city of temples, Buddhist Phetchaburi is a choice stopover for those who love old stones and historical discoveries. Halfway between Bangkok and Hua Hin, Phetchaburi boasts no fewer than twenty temples, palaces and caves scattered throughout its urban area. Rarely visited by Westerners, the town is well worth a visit. Quiet and discreet, Phetburi, as the locals call it, is more than just a stopover on the road to the South.
