This pleasant provincial town has a population of around 40,000. Formerly known as Muang Kukhan, Si Sa Ket lies between Surin and Ubon Ratchathani. It is easily accessible by road or rail. The area seems to have no other interest than that of certain archaeological remains dating back to the time of the distant Khmer civilization, including the famous Preah Viharn temple, located on the Cambodian side just over the border. Various ethnic groups (Suay, Lao, Khmer) still inhabit the region. For the rest, it's a peaceful place where you'll be welcomed with simplicity and kindness.
