Since 1995, its founders, Viren Perera and Giles Scott, have undertaken the rehabilitation of irrigation systems, reforestation, and the promotion and revival of organic crops. The village operates in the traditional way and finances itself by welcoming tourists during part of the year. The challenge was to reduce any obstacle to its activities: a limit on the number of visitors (max. 20 people) and the periods of visit (7 months per year) was established.
