44 km from Banaue, Mayoyao is surrounded by rice terraces where the visitor has a splendid view as soon as he arrives; it is the start of the famous hike to Mount Amuyao, 2,702 m high. The rice fields of Mayoyao are part of the Unesco heritage site. It is a difficult but unforgettable hike. A beautiful view of the Mountain Province awaits you at the top. According to the legend, the first ifugao couple, Bugan and Wigan, would have found refuge in this place during the flood which flooded the province for forty days. They would have been the only survivors and would have given birth to the ifugao people.
