Banaue lies at an altitude of 1,200 m, which means that temperatures are often cool. The heart of the village is made up of tall concrete buildings suspended from the cliffside. It's quite an impressive sight, with the mountains in the background. Banaue tries to preserve its ancestral practices and customs, and despite the development of tourism, daily life here still seems timeless. Banaue is best known for its location, surrounded by sumptuous rice terraces as far as the eye can see. At dawn, when the mists caress the mountains, or at sunset when the rosy hues form halos on the mountain tops, you're immersed in the mysterious atmosphere of this place. The locals are very welcoming. Those who have a little more time can take an interest in the great richness of Ifugao culture, which is under threat from tourism, as the population turns away from its ancient practices, naturally tempted by the greater income promised by this recent industry.
