41 km after Misratha, a road on the left leads to Tawarga 2 km north. This intersection is distinguished by a few large pottery and basketry stands on both sides of the road. Do not hesitate to stop there, it is not so often that you can make beautiful handicraft discoveries in Libya. The pottery comes from Gharyan, but the vanneries are a specialty of Tawarga and they are particularly beautiful. They consist mainly of round carpets and braided baskets of palm leaves, alternating with tinted strands and others of green and purple colours. These nice items cost only a few dinars and are unbreakable. Sometimes we also find small braided paniers packed with dates (10 DL). It is also a local specialty, exploiting palm palms as one of the major activities of Tawarga. This dough has been preserved for many months. It can eat heated with a little olive oil and accompanied by a glass of milk!
