Salvaterra is lined with coconut palms, so you'll go there for the beach. A few minutes by boat, Camará, where the boats from Belém arrive, and Joanès, which has ruins from the 18th century; and freshwater beaches to the east. A sleepy little town, it traditionally lived on agriculture and livestock, fishing and coconut farming. Today, agriculture, specifically pineapple growing, has become one of the main sources of the local economy. Ecotourism is beginning to develop, taking advantage of the beauties of the island of Marajo. Salvaterra is a main town of the island, with some lodgings and restaurants.
