Situated west of the mouth of the Parnaíba river delta, on the border between the states of Maranhão and Piauí, Tutóia is a transit town (between the Parnaíba delta to the east and the Lençóis Maranhenses to the west) with no particular appeal. Around the main square, the main buildings are the church, the town hall and a branch of the Banco do Brasil. The rest is a small network of dirt streets and a very quiet atmosphere. Tutóia seems to breathe nonchalantly in a heat that the almost permanent sea breeze makes you forget a little. You can make a brief stop here to appreciate the passing of time.
