A village on the edge of red sand cliffs overlooking the ocean, 180 km southeast of Fortaleza. A sandy alley lined with small restaurants, basic shops and inns. Wood, beards, palm trees, tiles, thatch. Ochre villas and buggies. At the end of the alley, 30 m below, the ocean. Few cars, little concrete, no asphalt. The beach is straight, with a few makeshift restaurants. The sea carries away in the evening what hollow skulls deposit by wheelbarrows on the sand: bottles, cardboard boxes, papers... On the dunes, away from it all, poor wooden crosses that only mention the date of death. In the evening, a light wind accompanies you in front of the black ocean illuminated by the huge moon. The temperature fluctuates between 25 and 35°C. Plan to wear sandals on the sand. The atmosphere is nicer, more modest than in Jericoacoara, because the geographical situation is more classic; the village, more accessible, is connected to a town. We notice a certain agreement between the natives, not very uprooted, and the sedentary tourists. The coast, south of Canoa Quebrada, and up to Rio Grande do Norte, is a succession of isolated and almost deserted beaches, bordered by cliffs and dunes. Beware of buggy accidents, they are everywhere, especially on weekends!
