135 km from Recife (2 hours by bus from Recife). During the whole month of June, the city celebrates one of the most important Festas juninas of the Nordeste, in homage to São Pedro, São João and Santo Antônio. People dance until dawn to the rhythm of the forró while eating the delicious gastronomy typical of these festivals(pamonha, canjica, bolo de milho, pé-de-moleque, quentão, etc). Caruaru is also known for its feira livre, a huge open-air market that takes place every Wednesday and Saturday from 9am to 5pm.
