The hilltop town features the main monuments of the early colonial period
The vestiges of the early days of colonization are to be found in the upper town, at the top of the hill overlooking the town. The old town can be reached by cab or by taking the staircase that connects it to the center of town (the walk should not be undertaken during the hottest part of the day, although the view from the top is well worth the effort). You can visit the main monuments around the large esplanade bordered by fortifications.
