Vast Art Nouveau-style iron greenhouse in Petropolis, now a venue for various exhibitions

Like the English and French "Cristal Palace" which paid tribute to the "miracles" of the nascent industrialization, the Palacio de Cristal is a vast iron greenhouse of Art Nouveau style. It was entirely built in France and transported dismantled by boat and reassembled in Petropolis. This beautiful work was inaugurated in 1884 by Princess Isabel - who held a grand reception there in 1888 to celebrate the abolition of slavery, one year before the fall of the Empire. The palace is now the scene of various exhibitions.
