Cabo Frio's historic colonial district, with a stroll along the canal-side street
Passagem is a small historical and colonial district of Cabo Frio, which reminds a bit of Paraty. A former Tupinamba village, Cabo Frio was founded in 1541, a few decades after the discovery of Brazil. Passagem is considered the cradle of the seaside resort. As in Paraty, one can see small, low, colorful houses, streets with huge cobblestones. The charming São Benedito church dominates the main square. A walk along the street that runs along the canal, under the blooming almond trees, will give you a break from the rolling waves.
