Military fort in Paraty, with a beautiful view over the bay, now home to a small anecdotal museum

The strategic location of Paraty and its function as the outlet of the old gold route that ran from Vila Rica, now Ouro Preto, led the Portuguese to fortify the site by installing a military fort, the Forte Defensor Pepetuo. On the other side of the river, following the road to Praia do Pontal, a pleasant walk through the forest leads to this fort built in 1703 to protect Paraty from possible invasions. Today it houses a small anecdotal museum. Very nice view on the bay which is worth the trip.

Petite balade sympathique proche de la plage. Une montée dans la forêt amène au fort qui offre une belle vue sur la baie et un bon spot de détente.

Une petite grimpette pour atteindre le fort et le point de vue sur la baie. Endroit assez calme, entrée gratuite.
Dans le fort, deux petites pièces proposent quelques objets d'art artisanal local.
