Mannerist-style church for slaves, the center of an interesting syncretic celebration in November

Built in 1725, it was intended for the slaves, who built it. In Mannerist style, it is the centre of an interesting syncretic celebration: the Festa dos Santos (Feast of the Saints) which takes place in November. São Benedito is the saint of the slaves and has been celebrated in Paraty since the 18th century. During the 10 days that the holy festival lasts there are processions and celebrations of black saints and the designation of the black king and queen among the people of the village.
