Chapel built in memory of Teodoro, a freed slave who died in the Perequê River during Holy Week

This chapel is said to have been built in 1901 in memory of Teodoro, a freed slave who died in the river Perequê during Holy Week. Legend has it that a button on his shirt was caught in the net that he threw into the water, dragging it to the bottom. A lady, Dona Generosa, promised to send him a cedar cross, but forgot her promise. One day, a friend came into his house and smelled... of cedar wood. She had a cedar cross made and a chapel erected.
