Pedra do Sal is a historical and religious monument, and above all an unmissable place of celebration. It is the heart of the Afro culture of the descendants of slaves in Rio, where musicians, samba and chorinho singers meet directly in the street. Every Monday (old worker's day off) samba rodas attract a crowd of dancers and party people, who come to drink a beer and eat a Brazilian dish. The place is very charming, in the middle of small colonial houses, cobbled streets and street art frescoes. The neighborhood is not very safe.

The Trapiche Gamboa is one of the sure values of the samba ("the" samba say the sambistas cariocas). Le Trapiche Gamboa is a samba club in a superb property dating from 1867 and completely renovated. On the ground floor, there is the stage and many tables in the heart of the atmosphere of the samba ao vivo (excellent samba roda on Saturday night). The show can be enjoyed here over a good cold beer or a dish. Upstairs, a more intimate and quiet space to nibble some pasteis while watching the sambistas !

Samba has always been played in this industrial wasteland district on Monday, the workers' day off. At the heart of Afro-Brazilian culture, the Renascença club is the meeting place for real samba. The samba roda brings together the best musicians and dancers. Few tourists know about the rendezvous, not even the hipsters who frequent the Pedra do Sal in the Centro. Authentic atmosphere guaranteed. You can eat acarajés, caldinhos and pasteis. The club is a closed and secure place with taxis waiting in front.

This hotel-bar-restaurant-art gallery, which appears to have been designed by Gaudí, is perched on the heights of Catete, in the heart of a pacified favela, and offers a remarkable view of the Sugar Loaf. Jazz concerts, bed & breakfasts, Indian cuisine evenings or simply a "classic" bar - there's no shortage of opportunities to come here. A van service is organized to get you there. One of the city's most original and popular venues. The Maze project has been described as unique by National Geographic, which says it all!

The Vinicius Bar, located in the street of the same name, opposite the Garota da Ipanema bar, is a bossa nova institution in Rio. The very intimate concert hall on the first floor has seen the biggest names in bossa music (Baden Powel, Wanda Sa, Dori Caimmi...). It continues to welcome very regularly the great (by talent) Maria Creuza and her velvet voice. Listening to a glass of caipirinha in the hand... Even today, in spite of the gentrification of the district, the same atmosphere of Brazilian music lovers can be found every weekend.
