KITENGELA GLASS ART
Amazing place in Kenya, known for its stained glass and mosaics, dishes and other objects, made from recycled glass
Kitengela Glass is certainly one of the most astonishing places encountered in Kenya. Founded in 1981, the "village" is the work of artist Nani Croze, a German who has lived in the country for over thirty-five years and is internationally recognized for her stained glass and mosaics, tableware and other objects made from recycled glass. The garden that surrounds the gallery and the workshop is also dotted with sculptures made of scrap metal and recycled glass and mosaic paths. Kitengela is both a place of creation and exhibition. The atmosphere is surprising and unique. Kitengela is also a training center for more than fifty artisans. Nani Croze has also designed and built six cottages available for rent, reminiscent of Gaudi's works, with a touch ofAlice in Wonderland. A sauna and a swimming pool complete the ensemble. The originality of this place and its offbeat works is worth a visit. If you can stay there, even though it's out of the way, it's even better! Activities (walks in the surrounding nature, or on camelback, art workshops) allow to keep busy. A suspension bridge takes you across the river for lunch at Rolf's Place. Next door, Nani's son, continuing his mother's work, has launched Anselm Kitengela Hot Glass. The studio showcases the products of his creation, which are more contemporary and more commercial. But it is at Nani's home that one finds the soul of a great artist.
