MARAIS DE PRAIA DA VITÓRIA (PAUL DA PRAIA DA VITÓRIA)

This lake area, very close to the city centre, descends in places below sea level. Its proximity to the urban fabric makes it a particularly rare wetland, but also threatens the local flora and fauna. Nevertheless, these marshes are home to interesting flora and are an important stopover in the North Atlantic for migratory birds. In December 2012, the Praia da Vitória marsh was recognized by the RAMSAR Convention as a wetland of international importance.
