THE COLLEGIATE CHURCH OF SAINT-GEORGES
This church was built in several eras. The transept dates from the th century, while southern croisillon was rebuilt in the th century. The chevet, typically faire with its striking chapels and decorated in white and black stone, dates back to the th century. Exterior walls too. The unique nave, with its imposing proportions, is inspired by the Languedoc buildings. Built in the 16 th century, it has a shattered cradle of metres and opens onto a vast chorus with huge pillars. The capitals are impregnated with the common themes relating to sins (such as Avare torture). The stained glass windows are contemporary. Three paintings depicting the life of Saint George, the first bishop of Velay, are also part of the furniture to be seen. The machicolated, the round road and other defensive elements recall that the church was fortified. The steeple, restored in the th century, was adorned with an arrow in the th century.
