CELEBRATION
City south of Orlando with beautiful homes, plush stores and colorful Art Deco architecture.
Located 30 km south of Orlando and less than 10 km from Disney World, Celebration is a rather unusual town, since it was founded by the Walt Disney Company in 1994. Its concept stems from Walt Disney's utopian project to create an ideal city where there would be no crime and where residents would live in harmony in houses of carefully crafted architecture. Mickey's father didn't live to see the realization of this project (he died in 1966), but it remains linked to his history. Today, the town of 11,000 inhabitants is no longer run by the company with the big ears, but its spirit remains the same as when it was first conceived. You'll see magnificent homes reminiscent of those in the DesperateHousewife series (all built in one of the five architectural styles approved at the time), plush boutiques and colorful Art Deco architecture. The entire downtown area is within walking distance, lawns are beautifully manicured, garden gnomes are strictly forbidden, and lively music blares from discreetly concealed speakers. The city is often compared to the artificial one in the film Truman Show. We recommend spending a few hours here, as it's a rather unique curiosity that will appeal to Disney fans, architecture buffs and the curious alike. What's more, it's a very pleasant walk, as the town is lush with greenery and flowers, and boasts an artificial lake around which you can watch birds and alligators.
