MISSION SAN LUIS
Mission San Luis is now a living museum with colonial buildings, exhibits and archaeological pieces
Mission San Luis was the capital of Florida when it was colonized by the Spanish from 1656 to 1704. At the time, the Spaniards lived on fairly good terms with the Apalachee Indians, for both economic and military reasons. The Mission has been faithfully reconstructed on its original site. Today, the 30-hectare site is a living museum, with colonial buildings (church, settlers' house, Apalachee ritual hall, etc.), exhibits and archaeological pieces. A fascinating visit not to be missed.
