A 19,000-acre preserve, home to bison, wild horses, alligators and many other species of animals
Bison, wild horses, alligators and nearly three hundred other species of animals and birds roam this 19,000-acre (7,690 ha) reserve. You can bike or horseback ride on the marked trails of Paynes Prairie, hike one of the eight trails or canoe on Lake Wauburg. The 15-metre-high observation tower at the Visitor Center offers a splendid panoramic view of the prairie.
