Archaeological site classified as a national historic site, remains of a prehistoric circular construction
Discovered in 1998, Miami Circle in Brickell is an open-air archaeological site located at the mouth of the Miami River. Excavations have uncovered the ruins of the first village of the Tequesta Indians, one of the indigenous North American peoples encountered by the conquistador Juan Ponce de León when he discovered Florida in 1513. Miami Circle, a remnant of a circular structure of prehistoric origin, has been designated a national historic site.
