TORCH OF FRIENDSHIP
A monument dedicated to President Kennedy following his assassination in Miami.
The Friendship Torch was installed in Bayfront Park in 1960. Standing on a 5-metre-high stone base, it symbolized the friendship between Miami and the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, at a time when many immigrants were arriving in Miami. Four years later, the monument was dedicated to President Kennedy following his assassination. It features the coats of arms of the 20 Caribbean and Latin American countries, with a space between Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic. Cuba is to be included as soon as relations between the two countries calm down.
