Secret gardens of exceptional beauty in Rome.
Villa Borghese houses four secret gardens of exceptional beauty: Giardino Vecchio, Giardino dell'Uccelleria, Giardino della Meridiana and Giardino della Coltivazione. Created at different periods of the 17th century, they have in common their rectangular shape, alignment and dimensions. During the Second World War, secret gardens were used as wartime vegetable gardens, which later led to their destruction. It is only recently that the gardens have returned to their original appearance.
