This fort tells the story of California and the extraordinary destiny of this Swiss immigrant who created an agricultural empire of over 60,000 hectares. This land, which he nicknamed New Helvetia, was built around the fort that served as a base for the region's development. But the land was deserted with the onset of the Gold Rush in 1848, and only the fort remained.
