Born during the gold rush, Sacramento is now an administrative city and the state capital. You'll enjoy strolling along the three or four main thoroughfares of old Sacramento, straight out of an old Western, with wooden passageways lined with friendly pubs, little restaurants and boutiques. There are museums that bear witness to this past, as well as to the state of California. The Pony Express statue reminds us that Sacramento was the terminus of the famous horse-drawn mail line. The city is alive with events all year round, including Gold Rush Days in September.
