Small, well-appointed museum and machine room symbolic of San Francisco's famous cable cars

Museum and engine room of the famous cable cars inspired by mining transport. Since 1974, San Francisco's symbolic machines have had historic monument status. The city owes them its success in colonizing hills such as Nob Hill and Russian Hill, inaccessible to horse-drawn vehicles. In this small, well-appointed museum, you can admire examples dating back to the 1870s, explore the machinery and even see the last car from the first cable car company.

Un musée gratuit à ne pas rater si vous voulez voir le mécanisme de fonctionnement des fameux cable car. On est vite impressionné par toute cette machinerie et les cable car exposés. Le musée propose aussi une petite exposition sur l'histoire des cable car et sur le tremblement de terre de San Francisco.

A voir absolument. Quelle ingéniosité opour mettre en place toute la structure de fonctionnement de l'ensemble des cable cars à partir d'un seul point.
Belle performance pour les ingénieurs de l'époque. Et cela fonctionne toujours!
