Ship in San Francisco, at over 70 years old remains intact, carrying personnel and supplies for the beaches of Normandy
At more than 70 years old, theObrien is the last of the 2710 Liberty ships built during World War II to be in her original, working condition. She will have made seven long voyages during World War II and eleven crossings of the English Channel, carrying personnel and supplies to the beaches of Normandy in support of the D-Day invasion. The nobility of this ship remains intact, as does its internal machinery. So impressive that it is this craft that we see in James Cameron's movie, the famous Titanic!
