In this film festival - the oldest in the Americas - foreign productions have always been well represented.

Founded in 1957, it is the oldest and still operating film festival in the Americas. After the lack of support from most Hollywood studios at the time of its creation, it received a major national film in 1959: Beloved Infidel, by Henry King, with Gregory Peck and Deborah Kerr. In addition, foreign productions have always been well represented. Award-winning directors include Mexico's Guillermo del Toro and Indian-American Mira Nair.
