Our family had a great experience at the King George Hotel. It's a great budget option in downtown San Francisco. All staff were super friendly, front desk, housekeeping, etc. The lobby and downstairs area were comfortable, with ample seating, a water filter, plus a selection of coffee, tea and pastries in the mornings. The rooms were clean and had all we needed, although a mini fridge would have been nice. The hotel is in walking distance to lots of restaurants, cable cars and other public transit, awesome playgrounds in Chinatown and the Yerba Buena Gardens, a Trader Joe's, and more. We stayed five nights while I attended a conference nearby and my family explored downtown.

Small but comfortable room, close to events, MUNI and BART, and amazing food. Tried out the lobby lounge this trip and that's definitely worth it. Hopefully I'll get to play some chess on their lovely board next time.

Wir hatten zwei Zimmer, die zwar beide sauber waren allerdings auch recht eng und in einem der Zimmer gab es auch Bettwanzen.

Very friendly staff, especially Jay, who warmly welcomed us! Reading some of the other reviews here, I'm baffled about what people seem to expect. The hotel is great value (for SF, but that is where it is), and the rooms are rather small, but if you go to SF to sit in the room, you should rethink your priorities. Patked with the vallet parking, was safe and good. The "breakfast sweets" and the coffee are good. Only weakness I found was a relatively slow/unreliable wifi and the warm water pressure in the shower. Byt, all in all, great hotel in a great location.

When I showed up they told me I owe a $10 per day amenity fee. This was not mentioned when I booked the place. I asked them what the fee is for and they said it's to pay for Wi-Fi. The hilarious thing is that the Wi-Fi doesn't actually work! It's not even strong enough to send text messages to people, I just turned off Wi-Fi and I'm using data for everything. Super annoying

Great place for the price! I appreciated that it was a central location and I could walk to a lot of attractions and restaurants. It is in San Francisco so lots of homeless people walking around and it’s the not the cleanest street. It was nice to have self parking available in a lot right across the street that was decent and made sure our car was safe. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I appreciated the water fill up station and games they had to offer in the lobby. They also had complimentary coffee, tea, and pastries in the morning which I didn’t utilize but appreciated. I would recommend this place if you want to stay near union square!

So disappointed with their billing system, booked the hotel online and somehow after a few days later it was declined saying my card was denied. Booked again using the same card and it went through only to find out my room was about $20+ more expensive.
When I checked in, I was told I had a $200 deposit which will be returned after I checked out. It has been 7 DAYS and I still haven't had the $200 returned.
The good location doesn't compensate for this SNAFU, as a foreign traveller with a limited budget, that $200 would be useful while I'm still here in the US

Edit: 14 days and counting my $200 dollar deposit still hasn't been refunded

Rooms are subpar. Plumbing doesn't work well. I couldn't even turn on the fan for semi-warm nights. Bar is basically for show as the bartender was unavailable at night. It's pretty quiet, though, so that's good.

Overall the hotel was pretty alright and not a bad deal for the price. The staff were friendly and the location was good. First and foremost, the place only has one tiny elevator only able to hold maybe 3-4 comfortably and beyond that it’s just cramped. The rooms were pretty small but overall pretty decent, they looked to be decently clean but not perfect. The bathroom door in the room was put on wrong so it couldn’t actually lock. That wasn’t the only problem though.

The water pressure in the bathroom would go in and out without warning which was especially annoying when you would go to take a shower. Beyond that the wall paper used in the bathroom looked like it was starting to peel off with what looked like black mold growing between the cracks.

Overall the place wasn’t awful but it now makes sense as to why it was so cheap.

The staff at the hotel is very friendly and helpfull. There is a luggage stocker and in the morning free coffee and cakes. Hotel is quiet, safe, clean and close to many attractions.
