The Fox Glacier Valley Walk (1 hour round trip) leads to the glacier terminal, but attention is paid to the still possible rock falls! The parking, at the start of the Fox Glacier Valley Walk, is one of the spots where elevations (endémiques parrots of mountains) can be observed, superb birds, not really fierce, and who love to take a stand on backpacks and other accessible objects. It is absolutely forbidden to feed these birds.

Une très belle marche
La marche pour se rendre au glacier est très belle, malheureusement le glacier en lui même fond à grande vitesse, et on l’aperçoit aujourd'hui difficilement sous une couche de roche noir.

Une marche d'approche dans un sillon de rivière et un paysage d’apocalypse permet d'atteindre facilement le pied du glacier. Les couleurs du Fox Glacier sont moins impressionnantes que celles du Franz Josef Glacier.

Magnifique expérience.
Nous pouvons accéder très facilement à un beau point de vue du glacier (après une montée assez raide).
Mais nous avons préféré le Franz Josef Glavier.

On nous avait dit qu'il pleuvait 290 jours par an dans cette région de Nouvelle-Zélande ; nous avons effectivement eu droit à un déluge pendant toute la durée de notre séjour. Cependant, les randonnées sont faisables sous la pluie, et le lieu n'en perd en rien son intérêt !
